Biography
Steve Battiato began his Information Technology career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 1983. Over the years, he has worked for the largest networking provider in the world, an internet service provider, and a local IT integrator. His specialty is helping small and medium organizations solve their needs with IT-based solutions. Steve is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis and Indiana Wesleyan University. He and his wife, Lisa, have been married for over 35 years. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling the world. His favorite people call him "Pops."

Bio: I have over 20 years of experience in classroom teaching and administration. I enjoy music, swimming, playing golf and reading. My favorite activity is spending time with my family. My husband, Phil, and I have three children, Rachel (Eli), Phillip. Aubrey and two grandsons, Adrian, and Axel. We have three dogs, Miki (Aussie), Liesl (German Shepherd) and Lola (Min-Pin).

Education: Bachelor of Science, Health and Physical Education, Murray State University
Bio: I am a physical education teacher with six years of teaching experience. Most recently I taught at St. Philip Neri school for thereyears. Before that, I worked as a physical education teacher at Pine Tree Elementary in Avon and St. Malachy. I will continue to teach at St. Philip while splitting my time at Scecina this year. I also coach girls basketball at Scecina. My wife and I live in Indianapolis with our two young children, Jack and Lucie.

Mr. Duggins comes to Scecina with more than 10 years of teaching experience in theology, Latin, and social studies. He and his family hail from Lafayette, where he worked at Central Catholic High School and for the Tippecanoe School Corporation. Mr. Duggins holds a B.A. in Philosophy and an M.A. in Moral Theology and is also a licensed realtor.

Education: Bachelor of Science, Biology and Natural Resources, Ball State University; State of Indiana Teaching Certificate, Anderson University. Bio: I was born and raised on the Eastside of Indianapolis, the oldest of five children. I am a graduate of St. Mary Academy, and my brothers and sister are all graduates of Scecina. After receiving my degree from Ball State University, I married my husband, Myron, and raised three children. When my youngest daughter was in middle school I decided to become a teacher. I returned to school to obtain my teaching license and teach high school science.

I am excited to teach at Scecina as a theology teacher. This will be the culmination of a lifetime of intellectual and religious/spiritual development. Much of my undergraduate work was focused on becoming a high school teacher. I delayed teaching to go to graduate school where I earned degrees in history and sociology. I’ve done some teaching at the university level but have spent the last ten years as a stay-at-home dad raising my two sons.
I am most of the way through an MA in theology at St. Meinrad. Catholic theology is a discipline where many of my intellectual interests converge, and teaching theology at the high school level will be the fulfillment of a lifelong calling.
I’ve lived in Danville, Indiana for the last nine years with my wife Laura, our sons Fionnegan (18) and Eamon (12), and a lot of cats. We enjoy travel and movies and good food.

Mr. Daniel Fox Sophomore Catholic Theology Teacher My name is Daniel Fox, and I’m excited to be part of the Scecina Memorial High School family as the sophomore Catholic theology teacher. I’m originally from Hammond, Louisiana, and while the Bayou State will always hold a special place in my heart, I’m currently in Indiana pursuing a master’s degree in theology from the University of Notre Dame. I’m part of the McGrath Institute’s ECHO Program, which provides theological and experiential training for catechists, and I’m set to graduate in June 2024. I earned my bachelor’s degree in theology from the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University in 2022. During my studies, I had the opportunity to study in Rome, Italy, at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. Outside of teaching and my academic pursuits, I enjoy reading and fishing. I’m also looking forward to a new chapter in my life, as I will be getting married in the summer of 2024. A fun fact about my wife, Savannah, and me is that we share the same birthday!

Education: Bachelor of Arts, Marian University Bio: I’ve been teaching at Scecina since 2014. Previously, I was the head men’s baseball coach at Marian University for 20 years and head women’s soccer coach for 16 years. I am the all-time winningest coach at Marian in both sports. I also worked as Marian’s director of alumni relations for four years and was the director of campus visits for five years. My wife, Brenda, and I are members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church on the Eastside.

Mr. Hadley began his teaching career as a French and social studies teacher. After obtaining his school counseling license, he worked as a high school counselor at Daleville Junior/Senior High and Perry Meridian High School. Mr. Hadley served in the Air National Guard for 10 years. He and his family are parishioners at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mr. Harris has been teaching for seven years at Noblesville, Ben Davis, and Roncalli. He has taught a variety of classes over the years, but his favorite subject to teach is economics to seniors. He is married to his wife, Hannah, who is a nurse anesthetist in Terre Haute. They have a son, Gabe, who will be a first grader at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL). The Harris family will be parishioners at OLL in the fall.

Education: Master’s Degree in Education Administration, Indiana University; Bachelor’s in English Education, Indiana University Bio: I’ve worked at Scecina in some capacity since the spring of 1990. I was the boys varsity soccer coach for close to 20 years, an English teacher, athletic director, vice principal and principal. I’m married to Patty Dugan Hegarty and we are the proud parents of two Scecina graduates, Joseph ‘15 and Eamon ‘16. We also have been host parents for 12 international students who have or are attending Scecina. One of my main responsibilities now is to recruit International students to come to Scecina.

Education: Bachelor of Arts, Purdue University; Master of Science, School Counseling, Butler University Bio: I have been a counselor at Scecina since 2012. Prior to coming to Scecina, I worked in the Institutional Research office at Butler University for 11 years. I then earned my master’s degree in School Counseling from Butler while working full-time. I enjoy spending time with my family - husband, Erik; son, Luke; and our dog, Violet, who is the princess of the house. I enjoy reading and watching my son play baseball.

I teach business courses and coach track and field at Scecina Memorial High School. I earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and an MBA from Indiana State University. Track and field has been a lifelong passion of mine. I competed nationwide with Wilma Rudolph’s foundation and earned a full athletic scholarship to Indiana State University, where I ranked third in the Midwest in the indoor 600. My coaching experience spans all levels, including Special Olympics and collegiate athletics. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, baking, traveling and crafting. I’m also a proud grandmother, known as “Mimi,” to my two grandchildren, Elijah and Lorenzo. I value Scecina’s loving community and am dedicated to fostering leadership, critical thinking and compassion in my students.

Kurt Judd completed his education at Beech Grove City Schools, graduating with honors in 2016 with a focus on business and technology. His early passion for computers has driven his continuous pursuit of knowledge. Kurt is also an avid consumer of cinema, television, and literature, and enjoys hiking. As a recent addition to the Indy Teledata team at Scecina, Kurt is eager to contribute to ongoing learning initiatives and deliver optimal support.

Leticia joins the Scecina staff from Ecija, Spain, in the province of Sevilla. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Language and Literature and has over ten years of experience teaching high school and middle school students in Spain, France, and Ireland.

Education: Associate degree, computer science Bio: I joined Scecina Memorial High School in the fall of 2005 and serve as the Director of Development. My responsibilities include managing The Scecina Fund (annual appeal), assessing the amount obtainable of the annual appeal, and providing a plan to reach the goal of the appeal. I enlist many of our alumni, friends, parents, grandparents, and business partners to support the Scecina Fund. Prior to joining Scecina, I spent more than 25 years employed as a sales agent and manager for a firm that represented multiple manufacturing companies throughout the country.

Education: Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, Indiana University Bio: I was born and lived in Mexico until the age of 8. My family then moved to the United States, and I have called Indy’s southside home ever since! I attended IU-Bloomington, where I studied psychology. Upon graduation I became an ABA Therapist and really enjoyed working with children with autism. In 2013 I began my career with recruitment and admissions at Providence Cristo Rey High School. After four years, I started my position at Scecina with the 2017-2018 school year. I also organize Summer Camps and the Student Ambassador program. I am now a proud Eastsider along with my dog, Jax. In my free time I enjoy travel, all things food, and quality time with family and friends.

Education: Bachelor of Arts, Journalism, Kent State University Bio: I worked in newspaper journalism for most of my career. After completing a postgraduate Pulliam Fellowship with the now-defunct Indianapolis News, I went to The Anchorage Times in Alaska. I returned to Indianapolis, where I settled. In 2015, I moved from The Indianapolis Star to Scecina. I love Scecina’s diverse population of students. My husband, Pat, is an attorney and a magistrate in Marion County Superior Courts. We attend Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and have three children, Joe, Brigid, and Sean, a 2016 Scecina graduate who is studying accounting at the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI. Outside Scecina, I enjoy family time, reading, playing music, the outdoors, playing Jeopardy on Alexa, and cooking on weekends. We have one black cat, Bandit and an Australian mix, Ivy.

Ms. Picardo joins the theology department as our new theology teacher through the ECHO program at the University of Notre Dame. Originally from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, she studied at the University of Mumbai and holds degrees in psychology, philosophy, and English Literature. For the past several years, Ms. Picardo has served as a counselor, Catechist, and college lecturer.

Wendy brings many years of experience teaching secondary English at Ben Davis 9th Grade Center, Chapel Hill Christian School, and Central Christian Academy. She enjoys challenging students to improve their writing skills by making practice interesting and enjoyable. Wendy has also worked as a city mail carrier between teaching positions.

Education: Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, University of Notre Dame; Master of Education in Policy and Management, Harvard University; Bachelor of Arts in History, University of Chicago Bio: I am blessed to serve as a member of the Guidance Department with a focus on online and hybrid learning. I have more than 10 years of experience in Catholic school leadership at the elementary, secondary, and diocesan levels. I have also ministered as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of Notre Dame and as a Catholic school consultant. I am a native of Northwest Indiana and have two brothers and 14 nieces and nephews. My parents still live in the house where I was blessed to grow up. I played varsity football at the University of Chicago and I taught English in Madrid, Spain. My favorite quotation from Scripture is: “I came that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10).

I have been an art teacher for 20 years with experience with ages from preschool to high school, 18 of those years with junior high students. John Ruddy joins the staff at Scecina as an Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) teacher from the University of Notre Dame. He is a graduate of Marquette University, where he studied English Literature with a minor in psychology. Mr. Ruddy is from Homer Glen, IL, a southwest suburb of Chicago

Bachelor of Science, Ball State University I have been a mathematics teacher for 34 years and have been teaching at Scecina since 2016. My wife, Pam, and I have been married for 32 years, and we have three adult children. We attend and are active members of Holy Spirit parish. Currently, we are a host family for two international students who attend Scecina. I am blessed to have the privilege to share my academic as well as my faith experiences here at Scecina.

I became the Facility Manager at Scecina in July of 2017, after a successful 20-year career in Operations and Facility Management. I’m a 1976 grad of Scecina and could not be happier to be back “walking the halls”. I’ve been married to my wife Lisa for 21 years and we have two daughters, ages 19 and 14. We are members of Holy Name parish in Beech Grove.

Education: Bachelor of Science, Chemistry, St. Joseph's College; Master of Science, Organic Chemistry, Purdue University; teacher certification, Indiana Wesleyan University Bio: I was born in Chicago and raised in Northwest Indiana, where I love taking walks on the beach and through the dunes. While attending St. Joe's, I met my future husband and moved to Indy, where I've lived for 27 years with him and my four children. Immediately after college, I worked as an analytical chemist at Superior Oil Company in Indianapolis for about four years. I began graduate school at IUPUI to pursue a doctorate in organic chemistry. My research was floundering, and God provided me the opportunity to leave with a master's degree and begin employment as a medicinal chemist at Eli Lilly and Co. After seven good years at Lilly, the pull to teach directed me to my current career. After completing my teaching certification at IWU, I went to Cathedral High School in Indianapolis to teach science. After two years teaching at Cathedral, the chemistry position at Scecina opened for me and I took it. I have been teaching all kinds of science courses at Scecina since (for the past eight years).

With a degree in Communications, Marta has spent much of her professional career in sales and customer service, focusing on management, onboarding, and retention strategies to drive customer growth. She will now apply her communication and organizational skills to our testing room, working with students who have learning accommodations.

I teach yearbook and TV production classes, along with some English elective courses, including journalism and speech. I'm a diehard Chicago Bears fan. I also enjoy reading, classic cars, and playing basketball. I live in Greenwood with my wife, Milissa, and our son, Chandler.

Education: B.S.E. Secondary English/Language Arts Education, University of Dayton B.A. English, University of Dayton M.S. Education Leadership, Creighton University Bio: As the proud daughter of a father in the military, I moved around a great deal growing up. This helped me become a more adaptable person. What never changed was the support of my family and our involvement in the Church wherever we went. My family ended up in the Dayton, Ohio, area. Once I graduated from the University of Dayton, I joined the Magis program through Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. This program, like Teach for America or Notre Dame’s ACE program, allowed me to live in a faith community with other teachers while I began my career teaching in Rapid City, South Dakota. I loved the beauty of South Dakota, increasing my knowledge of Native American culture, and the opportunity to explore my thespian side as the oral interpretation coach. I stayed there for six years. After a year as a substitute teacher in Dayton, I ended up in Indianapolis and at Scecina. I think Indianapolis is a great city, and I am grateful to be a part of the community of the Eastside. My hobbies include baking, cooking, reading, Zumba, watching movies, and scrapbooking.

Education: Princeton, Purdue Bio: I grew up in a suburb outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but my parents came from Indiana. I am deeply dedicated to teaching; my mother and grandmother were both teachers. I love to play piano, go for walks with my dogs, and read. I am very privileged to teach at Scecina.

Before that, I worked a variety of part time jobs including running an in-home day care which allowed me to be at home with our three children while they were small. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, sewing, and tending to our garden and flower bed.
