Women's circle members sitting around table

Scecina Women’s Circle outing at Black Acre Brewery on March 24, 2022.

What is the Scecina Women’s Circle (SWC)?

The Scecina Women’s Circle is a giving circle. Giving circles pool their money and resources and decide as a group on how they want the funds to be used.

This philanthropic group began with a desire to bring together women in the Scecina Community to support current students and academics and to gather socially throughout the year.

Our new chair for the 2023-24 is Angela (Grigsby) Espada, Class of 1979.

Our Mission

Through collective giving and working together, we will:

  • Reinforce Scecina’s meaningful community bonds.
  • Model to students the important influence of women in philanthropy.
  • Provide financial support to programs that benefit student life at Scecina.

Our 2023-2024 Funding Goals

Our main goal is to raise funds to support student programs and scholarships. As a member, you are able to vote on where to direct our support. This school year, we will help fund one of the following:

  • Girls athletics (volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, golf, soccer, swimming, and our three-time state championship softball team).
  • A new Creative Movement curriculum in the Theatre Department.
  • Materials for the new Developmental Reading class, taught by a reading specialist for students who need additional reading support.

Our 2023-24 Social Gathering

Our first social gathering of the year is at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza in Irvington, a Scecina corporate sponsor. Please RSVP to Beth Murphy at bmurphy@scecina.org if you would like to attend.

We are also planning a Nov. 28 event to pour our own candles at Penn & Beech in Indianapolis, as well as our traditional Advent outing in December.

2024 activities to be decided later.
