President’s Blog: Tim McGinley ’58 Court

Spread the love

Greetings, Scecina Community!

Every week, I can point to numerous examples of our students, educators, alumni, and friends living the 2023 Catholic Schools Week values of Faith, Excellence, and Service on campus and throughout our great land. Our school community accomplishes an amazing impact across the United States – and beyond!

One of countless Scecina examples of Faith, Excellence, and Service is a new development regarding our gymnasium and an inspirational Scecina alumnus. As many of you know, Mr. Tim McGinley, Scecina Class of 1958 and Little Flower Class of 1954, is a true Scecina success story.  Tim starred on the first Crusader basketball teams in school history. In 1958, he was the boys basketball team captain, led the City of Indianapolis in scoring, and was named to the Indiana All-Star Team.

In public presentations in the Scecina gymnasium, Tim has said, “I got my start right here in this gym!”  In addition, Tim was an outstanding scholar and president of the National Honor Society chapter at Scecina.

Tim then earned a basketball scholarship to attend Purdue University, where he was the second-leading scorer, led the team in assists, and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. In 2000, he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. After his academic and athletic career at Purdue, Tim attended Harvard University and earned a masters degree in business administration.

He enjoyed a highly successful business career while leading or participating in many Catholic and civic initiatives locally and nationally. As one example, Tim served as Chairman of the Purdue University Board of Trustees for 16 years and received the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Career Achievement Award.

In recognition of Tim’s friendship with Scecina, in February, the court in our gymnasium will henceforth bear the name of Tim McGinley Court. This development will promote three guiding values that, in Tim’s own words, have served as his personal compass for success, happiness, and significance, and he wishes to pass them on to all current and future Scecina students:

  • Trust in the Lord.
  • Be Grateful.
  • Serve Others.

At Alumni Appreciation Night on February 18, 2023, we will recognize Tim for his commitment, service, and many accomplishments.

I hope to see you there!

Thank you for supporting our Scecina Community that inspires Faith, Excellence, and Service among our students, educators, alumni, and friends every day of every year!

Go Crusaders!
