President’s Blog: Growth, Gratitude, and Giving Extra
Growth, Gratitude, and Giving Extra
This October we celebrate a season of growth at Scecina—in the classroom, our sports program, acts of service, and our faith. Our students have truly risen to the challenge, with 55% earning a place on the Honor Roll or High Honor Roll for the first quarter. High Honor Roll students excel with a GPA of at least 3.5, while Honor Roll students maintain a strong GPA of 3.0 or higher. We are beyond proud of each student, and you can see their names listed on our Honor Roll page. Their dedication is mirrored in extracurricular pursuits, with over 75% of our students participating in activities that enrich their lives outside the classroom.
Gratitude for Accomplishments
This season, our fall sports teams have celebrated outstanding successes during both the regular season and state association tournament post-season tournaments. This Saturday, our girls volleyball team competes at semi-state for the third consecutive year, embodying the resilience and spirit of Crusaders.
Our boys soccer team captured another sectional title and advanced to the state regional, while three boys cross country runners advanced to the regional level, and one boys tennis player advanced to the semi-state competition.
Beyond academics and sports, our students live out Scecina’s mission through service. Recently, students partnered with the Class of ’62 to plant tulip bulbs around our campus. These tulips will bloom in the spring, a symbol of our students’ growth and the beautiful potential within each of them, all nurtured here at Scecina.
A Legacy of Faith and Tradition
As November begins, we turn our thoughts to honoring our Catholic traditions and those who came before us. This week, in observance of All Souls Day and Día de los Muertos, our Spanish Club built a beautiful altar, now displayed in our rotunda, honoring the memory of loved ones who have passed.
On November 11 we will gather to celebrate Father Thomas Scecina and honor his inspiring legacy of service and faith. This Mass will also pay tribute to our military veterans, acknowledging their courage and sacrifice. On that day, we will also present the Father Tom Service Award to two remarkable members of our development team, Jim McGuinness ’68 and Gia Spaulding. Their unwavering commitment reminds us of what it means to “give that little extra” in service to our students and community.
Generosity and Faith
We are also grateful for the unwavering support of our generous and loyal donors who, year after year, go the extra mile for Scecina. Their generosity fuels our mission to guide students in academics, service, and their journey of faith. The Scecina community showed up for our students once again on Giving Day, raising $46,862 in just 24 hours. Through these contributions, our supporters help us fulfill our Catholic mission, empowering students to grow in knowledge, faith, and service.
Thank you so very much for your prayers and support that allow Scecina to thrive in ministry to our community!
Go Crusaders!
Sincerely,
Joe Therber
