President Therber: Scecina reaches $6 million

Spread the love

Dear Scecina Community,

I have so much good news to share with you.

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Scecina was LIVE from the new weight room for the Our Faith, Our Journey, Our Time capital campaign virtual rally. I hope you were able to tune in. If not, you can view here.

If you were not able to tune in, or if you were and would like to re-familiarize with our great news, I am thrilled to announce the following:

  • We were able to formally bless and dedicate the weight room. The pandemic delayed our formal event back in the spring of 2020, so what better way to bless and dedicate a space than with the entire Scecina Community safe from your own home!
  • Scecina reached the original $6 million campaign goal! We are blessed by so many generous supporters.  Thank you!
  • Matching challenge of $300,000 announced! George Newhart ’60, Scecina Board Chair, and the Scecina Board of Directors have announced a $300,000 matching gift challenge for the campaign. The matching gift is from a generous donor who has bequeathed funds to Scecina from his estate to be used at the Scecina Board of Directors’ discretion. This matching gift is a dollar-for-dollar match up to $300,000 on new or increased commitments made during Operation Homestretch before Dec. 31, 2020.
  • A new goal is established. As a result of the matching gift, we have set a campaign stretch goal of $6,600,000 in commitments by the end of Operation Homestretch on Dec. 31, 2020. Meeting the matching gift incentive and going beyond it will help ensure that we can fund the notable price increases in the construction industry while seeking to fulfill the original vision of the campaign, which includes improving and maintaining the Scecina baseball field on campus and funding more need-based tuition assistance.
  • The next campaign project will be construction of a chapel in the school building to support the spiritual growth of our students, staff, and community. We hope to open the chapel for the 2021–22 school year.
  • We have invested more than $350,000 in the Academic Excellence Fund and Facilities Endowment Fund already, with more to come.
  • The conclusion of the campaign is Dec. 31, 2020. A few generous donors, though, are in conversations with Scecina and could potentially lift our campaign total even higher in 2021, which would help address construction price increases and make further improvements as noted above.

With so much exciting news to share, I cannot be more appreciative of our Scecina Community.

As we attempt to meet the matching gift incentive and the $6.6 million stretch goal, you may be asking, “What can I do to help?”

  • First, please pray – for everyone in the Scecina Community to remain healthy during COVID, for the success of the campaign, and for the future of Scecina.
  • Second, please check your mail in the next couple of weeks for an in-depth special edition campaign newsletter with an opportunity to make a one-time campaign gift or a pledge of 1, 2, or 3 years to help us meet the $300,000 matching gift incentive!

If you have any questions, please contact me at 317-352-3280. Again, please accept my gratitude for everyone who has helped us arrive at this incredible moment for Scecina.

Sincerely,
