Lathrop, Kelshaw, and Cheever Recognized for Dedication to Youth Sports
Members of the Scecina Memorial High School community were recognized May 13 at the Catholic Youth Organization’s Annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral.
Jeff Lathrop ’96 and Anthony Kelshaw ’01 received the Monsignor Albert Busald Award, which honors adults who have provided sustained service to youth through CYO and parish ministry. Archbishop Charles C. Thompson presided over the ceremony, joined by Father Bob Gilday, longtime pastor of Little Flower Parish and a CYO board member.
Lathrop is a 1996 graduate of Scecina and a 1992 graduate of Little Flower Catholic School. He is a coach with Eastside Catholic Football and the parent of three Crusaders: Cierra, Class of 2023; Hillari, Class of 2026; and Isaac, Class of 2029.
Kelshaw is a 2001 graduate of Scecina and a 1997 graduate of Holy Spirit Catholic School. He also coaches with Eastside Catholic’s Football Team.
Dean Cheever, a member of the Class of 2025, received the Spirit of Youth Award. Cheever has been active in parish life and community service. He plans to attend Marian University and pursue a vocation in the priesthood. He is pictured with Archbishop Thompson and Father Gilday.
Each year, the CYO honors volunteers who make a difference in the lives of young people. The Spirit of Youth Award recognizes teens who demonstrate a strong commitment to service. The Monsignor Busald Award and the St. John Bosco Medal, the highest honors given by the CYO, recognize adults who have made a lasting impact on youth development.
