Donald Winston ’96 Returns to 29th Annual Scholar Athlete Awards
Scecina Memorial High School hosted its 29th annual Scholar Athlete Awards celebration, honoring student-athletes who have demonstrated excellence both in the classroom and in athletics. This year’s event was made even more special by the return of Donald Winston, a 1996 Scecina graduate, who delivered the keynote address.
Winston’s journey is a testament to the values instilled at Scecina. A graduate of St. Philip Neri Catholic School and Scecina, he led both schools to City Championships in football, was a Mr. Football finalist, and won a state title in high jump with a record-setting 7’0” leap. He went on to play football at Purdue University, where he started on the Rose Bowl team and earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Winston serves as Chief Operating Officer at Wabash International, bringing over 25 years of leadership experience in the manufacturing industry. He is known for building high-performing teams and driving innovation in the transportation industry. His message to students was clear: success is built on faith, discipline, and perseverance.
“Scecina gave me much more than a diploma—it gave me direction, values, and the confidence to pursue a future I never imagined,” Winston said. “The lessons I learned at Scecina were discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These lessons continue to guide me every day.”
Winston added, “Always keep faith and believe in yourself. Your journey is yours to shape. With the right mindset, support, and hard work, anything is possible.”
To be designated as a Scecina Memorial Scholar Athlete, a student must participate in one or more athletic programs and maintain a grade point average of 3.00 or higher. The evening concluded with the recognition of the 2024–25 Scecina Scholar Athletes, students who exemplify the school’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
