2023 Scholar Athlete Awards
The Scecina Athletic Department held its annual Scholar Athlete Awards Program on May 3. The Scholar Athlete Program is an important athletic department initiative aimed at helping students achieve academic, wellness, and career success. The program highlights the essential partnership between scholarship, citizenship, and athletic participation. It recognizes and rewards Crusaders who have put forth outstanding effort as athletes, scholars, and school and community citizens.

To achieve the designation of a Scecina Memorial Scholar Athlete, a student must participate in one or more athletic programs and maintain a grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

The scholar-athletes also had the privilege of listening to a powerful testimony from Silvia “Niky” Quezada. Quezada is a first-year Marian University student at the E. S. Witchger School of Engineering and a soccer athlete. Quezada’s journey took her from a bilingual home in Mexico to America. She spoke about the importance of putting your trust in God and remaining committed to your goals, despite challenging obstacles. Scecina Athletic Director Jason Kehrer awarded Quezeda with a plaque and a Scecina soccer jersey.
