Year-End Giving Strategies
The Scecina Fund is our annual appeal inviting alumni and friends to contribute financial gifts in support of our students and educators. The 2024-25 Scecina Fund goal is $1.15 million.
At this time of year, many people are considering strategies to maximize tax savings when making their gifts. Two methods that offer tax benefits are: Giving to Scecina through your IRA and/or through Indiana’s tax credit-scholarship program for residents.
IRAs, RMDs, QCDs
If you donate directly from your IRA to Scecina with a qualified charitable donation (QCD), the amount of your gift is not considered income and therefore not taxed.
• Counts toward your RMD – Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for those older than 73.
• Lower your taxable income – QCDs are not counted as your income.
• Planned giving – Give annually all at once or strategically throughout the year.
Please consult your IRA custodian for any specific forms or steps they may require to donate to Scecina.
Indiana’s Tax-Credit Scholarship Program
Indiana residents get a 50% tax credit on their state taxes when they give to a scholarship granting organization (SGO) that offers aid to students who qualify. Scecina’s SGO is the Institute for Quality Education.
When you make a gift to IQE to benefit Scecina, IQE distributes the funds to Scecina and you IQE will send you a tax donation receipt and, after the Indiana Department of Revenue approves your donation, you will receive your tax credit certification number (TCCN) to use on your Indiana tax forms.
