Scecina’s search for principal begins
By President Joe Therber
Dear Scecina Community,
I first want to thank you for your attention and support that have enabled our students’ learning and growth through the first 15 weeks of the school year. How time flies when you’re having fun!
During the next couple of weeks, a very important process will begin: Selecting the Scecina Memorial High School principal for the 2020 – 2021 school year and beyond.
Mr. David Dellacca has been serving since July 1, 2019, as the interim principal of Scecina. Mr. Dellacca is serving with a high level of commitment, energy, and enthusiasm.
Mr. Dellacca and I began the interim principal arrangement with the complete understanding that a public search and selection process would begin near the mid-point of the 2019 – 2020 year. That time has come, and the selection process is beginning as planned.
The process will include listening sessions among Scecina students, staff, and parents, as well as an online survey with six questions that all our students, parents, and staff will receive this month. In addition, a Search Committee will begin meeting by February 2020. This group will suggest candidates to interview based on applications and will help me interview and appraise candidates. My goal is to announce the principal selection to the Scecina Community in April 2020, or in May if necessary.
I want you to know the survey questions in advance so you can give some thought to them:
1. What is important or valuable about Scecina that may be appealing to a principal candidate?
2. What are the most important needs of the school during the next 3-5 years that will require the principal’s attention?
3. What personal qualities do you want to see in the principal?
4. What knowledge and skills do you want to see in the principal?
5. What would you like to change or improve about the school?
6. Please share any additional comments if you wish.
As always, thank you for every way in which you advance the ministry of Scecina Memorial High School. Please pray for all of our students and staff as we embrace the daily work of helping our diverse and gifted community of students grow and live as servant leaders in the inspiring footsteps of Father Thomas Scecina.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Joe Therber
President
