Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

Every year, Scecina Memorial High School awards nearly $1.2 million in scholarship and financial aid to new Crusaders. Scholarships and financial assistance are made possible by generous alumni and friends.

MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Scecina awards academic merit scholarships to the top academic students attending Scecina from every Catholic grade school in the East Deanery, Circle City Prep, Paramount School of Excellence, and the Oaks Academy based on 8th-grade first-semester academic performance percentages.

There is no need to apply for these scholarships. The grade school principal will submit nominations.

Father Thomas Scecina Scholarship

$5,000 Renewable Annually

  • The highest academic percentage of at least 98 percent

Presidential Scholarship

$3,000 Renewable Annually

  • After the above scholarship recipient, the next highest academic percentage of at least 96 percent

Scecina Pride Scholarship

$2,000 Renewable Annually

  • After the above scholarship recipient, the next highest academic percentage of at least 94 percent

Crusader Scholarship

$1,000 Renewable Annually

  • After the above scholarship recipient, the next highest academic percentage of at least 92 percent

Partner School Scholarship

$500 Renewable Annually

  • After the above scholarship recipient, the next highest academic percentage of at least 90 percent

Placement Test Scholarships

$500 to $2,000

  • Awarded to students earning the first, second, and third highest scores on the High School Placement Test among all applicants to Scecina
  • $2,000 (first place), $1,000 (second place), and $500 (third place)
  • Scores must be in 90th percentile or higher
  • For freshman year only
  • Scores must be submitted by February 7, 2025

Catherine And Robert Dangler Scholarship

$2,000 Renewable Annually

  • This scholarship was established in 2019 by John and Colleen Dangler, both members of the Scecina Class of 1967, to honor John’s parents.
  • This scholarship is awarded every four years to a student from Little Flower. The scholarship will be awarded next Spring 2027 for Scecina’s Class of 2031.

Eligibility Requirements

  • A current student from Little Flower entering Scecina.
  • The scholarship does not include a specific level of academic achievement, but that the student is working to the bets of his or her ability.
  • Based on tuition assistance need at some level.
  • Student has, or is participating in some form of extra-curricular activity (sports, play, musical, etc)
  • Student must plan on participating in one or more extra-curricular activities while at Scecina (sports, play, musical, etc.)

Dangler Family Academic Excellence Scholarship

$1,000 And $1,500 Renewable Annually

  • This scholarship is funded annually by  John and Colleen Danger, both from the Class of 1967.>
  • This scholarship is awarded every four years to a student from Little Flower. The scholarship will be awarded next Spring 2027 for Scecina’s Class of 2031.
  • This scholarship is awarded to up to three students from Little Flower (One student at $1,500 and two students at $1,000).
  • Apply with a brief essay.

Discover Opportunities Scholarship

$2,500

  • Awarded to two parishioners who are nominated from each East Deanery parish without a parish school: Peter and Paul Cathedral, St. Mary, St. Rita, and St. Thomas the Apostle.
  • Nominations due: February 6, 2026

Early Bird Scholarship

$3,000

Students who apply to Scecina and complete the five enrollment steps under “eligibility” by March 16, 2026, are eligible for a drawing for a $3,000 Early Bird Scholarship. One recipient will be selected in early April.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Apply for admission and complete your application.
  • Be accepted as a member of Scecina’s Class of 2030.
  • Complete your registration form and pay the registration fee.
  • Complete the tuition assistance application or financial aid waiver.
  • Complete the academic Course Request by attending Curriculum Night on February 19 or 25, 2026 or by making an individual appointment.

Immaculata Scholarship

Renewable Annually

This scholarship was established by Dr. Sheila (McNelis) Gamache ‘79 and Bob Bates in memory of Dr. Gamache’s mother, Joan Tarpey McNelis, for students at Our Lady of Lourdes, where Dr. Gamache attended elementary school.

Application due: February 6, 2026

Eligibility Requirements

  • The Immaculata Scholarship is available to Our Lady of Lourdes School students who attend Scecina Memorial High School.
  • Recipients must have attended Our Lady of Lourdes during their 7th and 8th grade years.
  • Priority consideration shall be given to students and recipients who are and remain active OLL parishioners, followed by students and recipients who are and remain active members of another parish or congregation.
  • Recipients must maintain a “B” average or better throughout grades 7 and 8 at OLL, or, according to the OLL principal and 7th and 8th grade teachers, must have worked to the best of their ability and displayed good behavior while a student at OLL.
  • Recipients must display a sincere desire to attend Scecina Memorial High School.
  • The families of applicants must submit a Tuition Assitance Application to the Business Office of Scecina Memorial High School and must demonstrate the economic need for tuition assistance.
  • The applicant’s family or guardian must also register and pay the registration fee on or before the normal deadline established for the student to be eligible.

John Meyer And Jeff Young Class Of 1968 Memorial Scholarship

$1,000

This scholarship was established by the Class of 1968 for the 50th reunion in memory of two classmates who were killed in the Vietnam War.

Application due: February 6, 2026

Eligibility Requirements

  • Awarded to a student from Holy Spirit Catholic School or Little Flower Catholic School.
  • The recipient must have parents, grandparents, siblings or family member has served in the armed services of the United States.
  • No academic requirement standing will preference the decision process.

Patricia “Trish” Mcmahon (’73) Sergi Scholarship

$500

This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Patricia “Trish” McMahon Sergi, Class of 1973, after her death in 2016. Trish worked in education for more than years serving children with moderate to severe intellectual and physical disabilities. She was known for her smile that could light up a room, her unmistakable laugh, her fondness for dancing and most importantly her loving devotion to her family and friends. Her avocations were many, most notably she devoted countless hours to volunteer service at Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House, and St. Vincent de Paul.

Tuition assistance for a student with intellectual or physical disabilities who attends Scecina.

Sister Lavonne Long Franciscan Values Scholarships

$500 Renewable Annually

  • Can be awarded to a boy and a girl from each East Deanery partner school
  • East Deanery school staff selects recipients who exemplify the Franciscan values of individual dignity, peace and justice, reconciliation, and responsible stewardship.

Stan Epperson Scholarship

$500 – $2,000 Renewable Annually

Stan Epperson is a Scecina alumnus from the Class of 1967. While a Scecina student, Mr. Epperson succeeded academically and athletically. He then attended and graduated from Butler University, where he was a varsity football player. Afterwards, Mr. Epperson launched a highly successful career in business and community initiatives. His accomplishments have been built upon values and lessons he gained at Scecina, which include succeeding academically, being involved in school activities, and conducting oneself ethically and responsibly.

As part of his generous and forward-looking spirit, Mr. Epperson is establishing a renewable, four-year scholarship between $500 and $2,000.

Application due: March 6, 2026

Eligibility Requirements

  • The most important criterion is the family’s financial need. Please complete the Tuition Assistance Application by March 16, 2026, and demonstrate high financial need.
  • Students must commit to a 3.0 GPA or higher every year at Scecina.
  • Students must commit to participate in one or more Scecina athletic programs every year.
  • Students must commit to participate in one or more Scecina non-athletic extracurricular activities every year.
  • Students must demonstrate positive school conduct every year at Scecina.

William Daley Memorial Scholarship

$1,000 Each Year Renewable Annually

William (Bill) Daley graduated from St. Philip Neri Catholic School and was a member of the first graduating class at Scecina Memorial High School in 1957. He is also a graduate of Marian University. Bill became a successful entrepreneur in the business world and was involved in the community as a business owner.

To honor Bill’s accomplishments and his love for Scecina Memorial High School, his wife, Shirley, established the William Daley Memorial Scholarship in 2022. The intention of the scholarship is to offer an incoming freshman to Scecina the same opportunity and experience of a Catholic education as Bill enjoyed. Preference is given to an incoming freshman student(s) from Philip Neri Catholic School.

The amount will be $1,000 per year and is renewable each year through the student’s senior year. Should the student leave Scecina for any reason, another student may be awarded the scholarship at the discretion of the admissions office of Scecina Memorial High School.

Eligibility Requirements

  • A preference is that the student receiving the scholarship is a student a graduate from St. Philip Grade School, but not a requirement.

NEED-BASED FINANCIAL AID

Scecina awards need-based financial aid based on verified family needs. Financial aid applications are due by March 16, 2026, for the first round of awards. Scecina encourages all families to complete the need-based financial aid application.
