Spread the love

August 31, 2023

Greetings, Scecina Community!

I am thrilled to kick off another positive and faith-filled year and share an exciting opening of year progress update.  As we embark on this new formational year for our students, I am grateful for your unwavering dedication to Scecina. Together, we continue to make incredible strides forward for our students and community.

Opening of Year Progress Update

  1. Enrollment: Our school community continues to flourish, as 455 students are enrolled at Scecina today, including 120 freshmen in the Class of 2027. 73% of our student body are Catholic. Regarding race and ethnicity, 42% are Hispanic or Latino; 38% are Caucasian; 11% are African American; 4% are multi-racial; and 5% are Asian or from additional backgrounds. 99% of our students receive need-based aid and/or merit scholarships to attend Scecina.
  1. Construction: We are transforming our campus facilities. Construction projects are progressing as planned and scheduled, including the new front entrance, new athletic complex and gateway buildings, door #1 vestibule, landscaping initiatives, and additional instructional areas inside the school building. All these improvements will enhance our campus functionality and aesthetics while providing our students with the facilities they need to continue excelling. Please visit our website, scecina.org/construction, to follow along.

Donors to the Our Faith, Our Journey, Our Time capital campaign continue to fulfill pledges at a remarkable on-time rate of         98.6% to make our major outdoor construction projects possible.

  1. Ongoing, New, and Expanded Student Offerings: Next week, members of our senior class will embark on the first of three Christian Awakening Senior Retreats this year. This transformative experience invites students into a focused three-day reflection on their faith and relationships. Please pray that they experience the infinite love God has for them and that they go forth with renewed hearts and minds.

In addition to continuing more than 20 college credit-bearing academic courses, this year we have added developmental reading and math classes for students who need additional assistance, as well as new performing arts classes, language-learning services, and counseling resources for students.

These and many other examples of student-centered progress illustrate the blessings God continues to bestow upon the Scecina Community. We are grateful for the vast generosity of our donors, parents, educators, and students who, every day, believe in the vision of Scecina as a beacon of Christian hope, strength, and excellence.

Thank you very much for your ongoing support and commitment – Go Crusaders!

Yours in Christ,
