President Therber: 6 recent Scecina successes

Spread the love
School Mass

Father Bob Gilday celebrates Mass with students and faculty on April 16, 2021, at Scecina Memorial High School.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

During this Easter season, we rejoice in the hope and joy of our risen Savior, who is the true light of the world.

At school, we are moving into quite a busy season. The calendar is full: spring sports, spring musical, prom, the walkathon, and year-end awards as well as the Baccalaureate Mass, final exams, Commencement, and other Class of 2021 activities.

Our halls and classes are livelier with more students as we transitioned after Spring Break from a hybrid schedule to welcome back all students who wanted to learn and engage in person each day.

Looking back over the past few weeks, I’d like to share six recent Scecina successes:

    1. We engaged many members of our staff to develop a safe re-entry plan for all our students to be able to attend school in person every day for the remainder of school year after 12 months of many different scenarios required by health protocols.

  1.      2. Our teachers, administrators, and support staff worked diligently to navigate this year and learn new professional approaches and tactics. Our staff’s support of students this school year has been phenomenal.

  1.      3. We’ve returned to regular in-person Masses with our East Deanery priests each week at school. It’s been a blessing to be able to gather, pray, and worship together as a faith community.

  1.      4.  We finalized the relocation of our softball field from Brookside Park to Irvington Sports Association on the Southeastside along interstate 465. This location will bring new opportunities and enhanced visibility, and is being accomplished very affordably thanks to many months of working with the ISA to develop a joint-use agreement.

  1.     5. Our capital campaign – Our Faith, Our Journey, Our Time – had, as you know, an original $6 million goal. We now are at commitments of $6.9 million with the real potential of going even higher during the next few months.

  1.     6. Hundreds of people in our community – parents and donors – have been incredibly faithful to the promises they have made to Scecina. In other words, while our students are heavily subsidized by alumni and friends due to family income levels, our families’ faithfulness to their tuition agreements remains incredible, especially during the pandemic. We anticipate tuition collections as a percentage of agreements to again be about 99 percent. Equally inspiring, in our capital campaign, the on-time pledge fulfillment rate stands at 99 percent, with $5 million received in payments to date.

There is much to celebrate and much to be thankful for. I am thankful for all of you, who contribute to these successes and inspire us to continue our mission here Scecina.
